EDID

Data a display sends to a source describing the resolutions it supports.

EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) is a VESA-defined data structure a display provides to a connected source device describing its supported resolutions, timings and capabilities, so the source can send a compatible signal.

In rooms with switchers, extenders and multiple displays, mismatched EDID causes blank screens, wrong resolutions or flicker. Integrators manage EDID at switchers and extenders during commissioning so every laptop "just works".
