About AV Company New York
A commercial audiovisual integration company based at 24 Mercer Street in New York City, operated by D.I.S.T., designing, installing and supporting AV systems for businesses throughout the five boroughs.
AV Company New York and D.I.S.T.
AV Company New York is the New York commercial AV practice of D.I.S.T. — Design, Installation, Support, Technology — a technology integration company delivering design, installation and support for commercial clients. AV Company New York is operated by D.I.S.T. from our office at 24 Mercer Street in SoHo, and this website is the New York point of contact for commercial audiovisual work. The D.I.S.T. team\'s background covers AV integration alongside network infrastructure, IT consulting, security and low-voltage systems, which is why our AV projects tend to sit comfortably next to the IT department rather than in conflict with it. Projects such as 3 Times Square, the General Motors Building amenity renovation and the Well & Durst video wall are examples of that combined scope in Manhattan.
Commercial Only
We work on permanent commercial audiovisual systems: conference rooms, boardrooms, meeting rooms, training rooms, town-hall spaces, lobbies, video walls, digital signage, commercial audio and the control and network systems that tie them together. We do not rent equipment, produce events, or install residential systems. Keeping the practice commercial-only means our design standards, installation methods and service agreements are built for the way businesses use technology every day.
Our Approach
Design before purchase. Every project begins with how the organization meets and what the building allows, and produces drawings and a validated budget before equipment is ordered. Standardize wherever possible: a small number of room types deployed consistently gives staff one interface and IT one configuration. Work with IT, not around it: room devices are network devices and are designed into the organization\'s security and management policy. Commission before handover: every source, seat and failure mode is tested and documented. Support afterward: platforms change, and a service agreement keeps rooms current.
Engineering Philosophy
The equipment in a room is a fraction of its value; the engineering is the rest. Display size is calculated from viewing distance. Microphone type is chosen from ceiling height and finishes. Cameras go where they see faces. DSP is not optional. Control is only as complex as the room needs. Documentation is written for the people who will support the system after we leave. We are platform-neutral — Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Webex and Google Meet rooms — and we select equipment for the room rather than for a brand relationship. New York Focus
Our office is in SoHo, and our work is in Manhattan\'s office towers and across Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. New York buildings have their own rules — certificates of insurance, freight scheduling, union and after-hours requirements, plenum cabling, landlord approvals, landmark restrictions — and we plan every project around them.
