DISCAS

The AVIXA standard for sizing displays based on viewer distance and content.

DISCAS (Display Image Size for 2D Content in Audiovisual Systems) is an AVIXA standard (ANSI/AVIXA V202.01) that provides a method for determining appropriate display image size based on the farthest viewer's distance and the type of content being viewed.

DISCAS distinguishes Analytical Decision Making — content viewers must read in detail, like spreadsheets — from Basic Decision Making, where viewers only need to recognize what is shown. AVIXA describes a viewing ratio calculated as the farthest viewer distance divided by image height, and publishes free calculators based on the standard.
