Project Overview
The General Motors Building on Fifth Avenue is one of Manhattan's best-known office towers. Our team served as AV consultant for the renovation of 18,381 square feet of second-floor tenant amenity space comprising a presentation hall, an event space, a grab-and-go restaurant and a gym.
Client Challenge
Amenity floors in a trophy building are shared by many tenants and must handle very different uses in the same day: a company all-hands in the presentation hall, a catered reception in the event space, background audio in the restaurant and gym. The technology had to be planned early enough to be built into the architecture and priced accurately before construction began.
Scope of Work
- AV consulting for four amenity environments across 18,381 square feet
- Sound mapping for speech intelligibility and background audio coverage
- Projector mapping for the presentation hall
- Construction documents for the AV scope
- Budget validation before procurement
- Construction management from design through completion
AV and Technology Solution
Rather than specifying equipment first, the work began with the spaces. Sound mapping established loudspeaker placement and coverage so speech in the presentation hall stays intelligible at every seat while restaurant and gym audio stays contained to their own zones. Projector mapping fixed throw distances, image sizes and ceiling coordination for the hall before ceilings were closed. The AV scope was then written into construction documents the general contractor could bid, with budget validation to keep the technology allowance realistic, and our team managed the construction phase so the drawings were built as designed.
Results
A coordinated amenity floor where the AV was designed into the construction set, priced before bidding and managed through completion — the sequence we recommend for every New York build-out with a technology component.
